Volunteering at a Shelter or Rescue
According to wikipedia, a volunteer is someone who serves in a community primarily because they choose to do so.
People are motivated to volunteer for many different reasons – some are lonely, some want make a contribution to society, some want to speak for those who can’t speak for themselves.
Animals are one of the most helpless members of society. They don’t have a voice and don’t have a say in what happens to them. By volunteering, you can become their voice.
In addition, many shelters and rescues depend upon volunteers to keep their facilities running. They do not have the funds for the amount of staff that would be necessary to do day to day tasks, let alone tasks over and above the bare necessity.
PETS 911 encourages you to volunteer as an individual – or a as a group – to help our nation’s homeless and lost pets.
Not only do the animals and shelter workers benefit from the giving of your time…you do too!
Some of the benefits you receive from volunteering include:
- Making a difference in a life. You not only will help make an animal’s life better but you can help show other humans the importance of responsible pet ownership and pet care. This education has far-reaching effects from the parents to the children and on down the line. Children who learn to love animals, grow up to be adults who love animals.
- Unconditional love. What gives more love and attention to you than a pet?
- Social benefits. Create friendships with like-minded people who work right beside you.
- Expand your horizons. Perhaps you’ll find yourself outside your original comfort zone performing duties you never thought you could do, let alone do extremely well. You may even discover a new career path.
- Accomplishment. Working with homeless pets gives you a great sense of accomplishment. You can see the benefits of the work you did each time a pet walks out the door with their new forever family.
Thank you for helping our nation’s homeless pets.
